Advocacy for Inclusion and participation
RELON-Kenya’s advocacy and research program is committed to ensuring that refugees are included in policy dialogues a both the governmental and international levels. The program engage with policy makers and ensure refugees are included and participated on focal areas such as asylum processes, protection and mobility. This is due to the scattered nature of refugee-led organizations (RLOs) across Kenya which poses significant challenges to coordinated advocacy and collective action.
Many RLOs operate in isolation, focusing on immediate community needs without leveraging their collective strength for broader advocacy or policy influence. This fragmentation not only dilutes their impacts but also creates redundancies in service delivery and advocacy efforts, leading to inefficiencies and missed opportunities for collaboration. Without a united platform or structured network, RLOs may struggle to access resources, share best practices, or amplify their voices on critical issues affecting refugee communities.
RELON-Kenya engaged RLO leaders and refugees through the advocacy task force and works collaboratively with partners to ensure refugees are included in the decision-making tables on the matters affecting their day-to-day lives. The RELON-Kenya policy advocacy emphasizes proactive efforts to mobilize and strengthen collective advocacy for policy change or systemic improvements that could address the causes of displacement and vulnerability.
