The Refugee-Led Network of Kenya (RELON-Kenya) stands in unwavering support of the victims of the recent gas explosion in Embakasi. This tragedy has left a trail of devastation, impacting not only refugees but also members of the host community.

Following the incident, RELON-Kenya mobilized its team to conduct site visits and assess the damage sustained by individuals and families. Through this crucial effort, we were able to identify 40 individuals who required immediate assistance. Recognizing the immediate financial hardship faced by many victims, RELON-Kenya distributed cash assistance to 35 individuals; 21 females and 14 males. This financial support offered a lifeline during a time of immense difficulty. However, rebuilding goes beyond just finances. Many individuals lost vital documents in the explosion, creating a barrier to accessing essential services.

To address this challenge, RELON-Kenya's legal officer provided crucial legal advice on the process of acquiring replacement documents. This guidance empowers victims to navigate the administrative hurdles and regain control of their lives. The emotional impact of such a traumatic event is profound. Understanding this, RELON-Kenya facilitated a session with a psychosocial counselor, offering group counseling to the victims. Additionally, individual counseling sessions were encouraged, ensuring each person has the opportunity to receive personalized support as they cope with the trauma.
